Flushing Basics

It doesn’t take an expert to use Fido’s Flushable bags, just a little common sense.

Although Fido’s Flushable bags are water soluble, the bags do not dissolve immediately upon contact with the toilets water.  The bags simply soften to ease in the flushing process.  If the bag does not flush the first time, no plunging is required, just simply wait 30 seconds and flush again.  Once the bag goes through the system, the bag will begin to break apart and eventually dissolve completely 100% biodegradable into water and oxygen.  The dog waste will then be treated the same as human waste.

  1. Never tie the bag closed.  Closing the bag will lock in air and keep the bag from flushing down easily.  A simple twist once and fold over is the best choice.
  2. Never try to flush more than a regular amount of human waste at one time, meaning one bag and one poop at a time.
  3. Always use the ‘Fido Bag’ to safely transport to the nearest flushable unit.  You don’t have to carry the bag all the way home, any public restroom or trash can if no flushable unit is available will do.

Sewer Systems

If you are on a municipal sewer system, most experts state that flushing is the most desirable method of disposal.  If you have any doubts that this method is of any concern in your area, contact your water safety council before using flushable bags.

Septic Systems

For homes using Septic Systems, flushing your dog’s waste can potentially exceed the design capacity of the septic system. High volumes of hair and ash along with additional doggie favorites like pieces of plastic toys, balls and shoes, are not normally found in human waste and can interfere with septic system functions and clog drain fields.

Reviewing your septic systems capacity before usage and properly maintaining its capacity limits along with regular maintenance is highly recommended.  Using special pet waste additives to aid in the degradation is also recommended.  Septic System Digesters
